I have Cazza and the rest of the folks over at Femme Metal to thank for introducing me to At Odds With God... Thanks!
Ok, lets get this first part over with - At Odds With God have a female vocalist and they play extreme metal, so comparisions with Arch Enemy are inevitable. But, scratch beneath the surface and you'll soon discover that we're dealing with quite a different monster here. While Arch Enemy are happy to lurk in the realms of Death/Thrash Metal, AOWG are out-and-out Death Metal with a sublime Neo-Classical edge. Just have a listen to one of the many guitar solos on offer on this album to understand what I mean.
The vocals are, without shadow of a doubt, awesome. While each and every word is still carefully pronounced (and therefore relatively easy to understand), the vocals are deeper and more evil than expected, and "Earning Damnation" definitely benefits highly from this.
The songs are very well crafted and sculpted to perfection. I'd even go as far as to say that there are no weak tracks at all on this album. This album really does live up to the phrase "all killer and no filler".
Even though all of the songs are worth listening to, if you're looking for a place to get started I recommend "Perpetual Agony", "Black Omen", "Prey On The Weak" and "Thunders of Wrath".
With their musical abilities and the effect this has on their song-writing, AOWG have proved themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
