Reviewers usually like it when they can easily pigeon-hole a band into one genre or another, but Canobliss have managed to make this task near impossible! There's a good mix of a wide range of styles here - rock, metal, pop and I think I even got a hip-hop vibe in one part of one song. Even within those genres there's an incredible blend of melody, groove, aggression and sentiment. Mostly, I think the best word for this music is "weird". That seems to cover it quite comfortably!
I hope I haven't put off any purists with my words - because, if you reject this album on the basis that it's not pure metal, then you're certainly missing out on a treat. I found that the album took a couple of listens to get into, but once that initiation was over, I found myself hooked.
A few songs in particular really caught my attention - the opener "Notorious", the awesome "Psychothermia" (there are some great lines in this one! You'll be singing the line "take your money and run" for weeks after listening to it!) and "Convicted Again". We're treated to two versions of "Convicted Again" on this album - the album version and the radio edit. There's not much difference between them, but it's still a damn good song.
Overall, Canobliss have created a superbly catchy album. I was quite surprised with how much I enjoyed this album. Canobliss are definitely a band to keep an eye on.
