Review
Since interviewing Lutemkrat late last year after only hearing a few tracks from MySpace, I have been very keen to hear this album (and, in turn, review it!). Did "The Last Survivor" live up to my expectations, or was it a bit of a disappointment?
The observant among you will notice that I've given the album an impressive 10/10 - so, obviously, I thought it was rather good. Lutemkrat creates Black Metal with such a natural (almost organic) sound that it feels like this is the way that Black Metal was meant to be played. I'm also left with the (completely incorrect) feeling that this wasn't manmade - it just naturally exists. The vocals, the melodies and the instrumentation all fit together seamlessly and effortlessly. The overall atmosphere of the album is bleak and dark, and yet there does seem to be a slightly optimistic undercurrent - a message of hope or victory, perhaps? This seemingly displaced optimism adds a whole extra layer to the album and provides it with yet another way to hook the listener in from start to finish.
I am unable to pick a favourite track and I also believe that (to be truly appreciated) this album should be listened to in it's entirety. Don't just settle for listening to one or two tracks on MySpace. If you're looking for something special, you won't go far wrong with this release.
