It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of President Evil. "The Trash N Roll Asshole Show" has been lurking on my CD Player and MP3 player since I first got it nearly two years ago and every time I've seen the band live they've stolen the show from every other band on the bill.
So, as you can imagine, I had extremely high hopes for "Hell In A Box". Before the album's release I caught a couple of video clips on YouTube and was introduced to the title track's promotional video and a live video for "Jesus Factor Negative" and this added to the excitement. As soon as I first listened to the album I knew that the months of listing President Evil in my 'favourite bands' lists on various forums all over the Internet had not been in vain. President Evil's back!
Everything I loved about "The Trash N Roll Asshole Show" is here in abundance... and the wole ting has been turned up a notch or two. President Evil's Punk Rock infused Metal doesn't fail to hit the spot and tracks like "Jesus Factor Negative", "King Asshole" and "Godforsaken" take no prisoners. Johnny Holze's confidence and rock 'n' roll swagger shines through the recording and just listening to the opening track ("Viva La Muerte") lets you know that he has every right to be this confident.
The songs on this album prove that the band work as a very tight unit and I imagine that the months on the road with bands like Motorjesus and Gwar have helped them to reach this level.
We're still only in the first half of this year and already I've found two albums that are going to be added to my "Favourite Albums of 2008" list in December. In case I haven't made it clear already, this is one of them (and the other is Devilish Impressions' new release)!
