Review

Scythian I received this EP a couple of weeks ago and I really thought that I'd already reviewed it... until I checked back on the site and realised that I hadn't. The truth is that I've listened to it rather a lot and I must have dreamt that I reviewed it!

So, I'm going to see if I can remember what I wrote in my dream review...

Scythian's sound is the result of a melting pot of Black Metal, Thrash and Death Metal. They've managed to add just the right amount of each to create the sound and atmosphere that they ended up with on this EP. This is extreme Metal taken back to the way that it was originally made - and the Bathory cover seems to be here to reilliterate that point. The music here is warlike and brutal and never lets up for a second. Scythian take no prisoners.

I could go on and on about how great it is that Scythian haven't decided to play something softer or about how raw, yet well-produced this demo is. I really could. But I won't. What I will do is tell you something far more important - this music gets my blood pumping. It makes me want to bang my head (specifically in the 'windmill' style). I could continue to go on about how this is technically and musically wonderful, but the main thing is that I'm now dying to catch this band live... and I guess that's all that matters. They've got themselves a new fan right here.
