Damaste are going to eat your soul. Ok, maybe not, but the music on this four track EP is brutal enough that they may as well give it a go.
When I first received this CD to review, I must admit that I was a little bit sceptical. Afterall, as far as I'm aware, this is the bands first EP/demo and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting too much. While the music here won't be breaking any boundaries, it is of a surprisingly high quality. Damaste mean business and they're incredibly good at what they do.
The tracks on "The Crumbling Vaults of the 5th Sun" combine Death Metal, touches of Thrash and enough melody to keep the whole thing moving along. The whole EP feels like a burst of uncomprimising energy.
While the selection of genres listed here may seem to be anything but original, Damaste do seem to have their own identity and are definitely playing the game by their own rules.
If you're able to check your hands on this demo, then make sure that you do. At the moment, the EP's final track, "The Opalescent Psalm" is my favourite, but all the tracks do have a certain charm.
