Interview

The Baby Sitters

Sit back, relax and enjoy the first interview with a punk band to be featured on Loucifer Speaks...

Lou: Hi, thanks for taking part in this interview - I really appreciate it!

Gillian: Thanks for having us!

Lou: Congratulations, you are the first punk band to be interviewed on Loucifer Speaks! How does that make you feel?

Gillian: All warm and fuzzy indide, ha ha

Skinhead Jim: It feels great actually! Like all our hard work has finally started paying off or something!

Lou: How long has the band been together?

Skinhead Jim: About three years or so now I think.

Jamie: Aye since 2005!

Lou: Which bands would you say are your biggest influences?

Gillian: There are so many bands that have influenced us individually as well as as a group, we would be here all day if we were to list them all but some of our favourites are the likes of Rancid, SLF, The Dammed, The Exploited.....

Lou: The name Myra Hindley and The Baby Sitters must raise a few eyebrows. What has the reaction to the name and the music been like?

Gillian: It certainly does! We actually had to cancel a show not that long ago because some wee old guy saw the flyers in a pub and complained to the police! We nearly got done with breach of the peace!!!!

Jamie: You either love it or hate it, it's only a name and it doesn't reflect our music, other than the fact that we don't give a fuck and we play what we like!

Skinhead Jim: Yeah people love our music and come to see us play regarless of whether they like our name! Alot of folk have came to see us just because of our name too, they get curious! We've never had any hecklers or anything because of it so its all good so far!

Lou: I've noticed from your MySpace page that you currently have a live album available. How can folks get their grubby little hands on this?

Skinhead Jim: There's actually no copies of that cd left for sale, we only made 100 so that it would be a rare thing to have, like only our original fans etc would own one. We're in the middle of recording a new album just now though so that will hopefully be available later this year, we take payments via paypal once we know who wants to order etc so it's all done online.

Lou: Which is your favourite Baby Sitters song and why?

Gillian: We all love playing 'Digging Up A Date' it's so full of energy and really gets the crowd going, it's alot of fun! One of our new songs kicks ass too, it's called 'Killer Clowns' we've not played it live yet but it'll be getting its debut in May!

Lou: Who writes the music and lyrics? Skinhead Jim: I had a few of our songs written before the band even formed properly, Gill does alot of the lyric and riff writing and jamie contributes quite heavily too now though, we all come up with riffs and lyrics and just bring them to the studio and we write around what each other has brought.

Lou: What are most of your lyrics based on? Where do you get your inspiration from?

Gillian: Most of our lyrics are either something that has happened, personal experiences or just made up stories!

Skinhead Jim: Yeah, none of us really dug up a dead body or got chased by killer clowns but we have seen people being abused by boyfriends, friends dying and some pretty fucked up shit, so we write about it.

Lou: What’s the best thing about being in the Babysitters?

Skinhead Jim: Getting to play music that we love with our best friends!

Jamie: Yeah and the feeling you get when you come off stage

Gillian: All of the above! ha ha.

Lou: I've been reading through the information on your MySpace site and one thing that came up a couple times that grabbed my interest was the “Gill style Tequila”. Would you care to elaborate?

Jamie: "Ha ha, she nearly killed me and our old guitarist Junior that night! What she had us doing was taking tequilla slammers but putting the slat up your nose, downing the shot then squeezing the lime into your eye!!!

Gillian: Ha ha ha, that was a good night aye, Junior got all confused because the rest of us were doing it so fast and he ended up putting the shot of tequilla in his eye!

Skinhead Jim: A typical night out with Gill, ha ha. She's the bad influence!

Lou: Have you got any shows/tours coming up?

Gillian: We have alot of great shows coming up with the likes of 999, Guns on the Roof, The Hyperjax and The Pork dukes!

Jamie: Check out our myspace page for a list of upcoming shows

Lou: Which venues are we most likely to catch you in?

Gillian: Anywhere that hasn't barred us yet! ha ha

Skinhead Jim: We drink in Firkins when we're in Falkirk, Rockers in Glasgow, Bannermans or Jekyls in Edinburgh and anywhere else we happen to stumble across whereever we are! ha ha.

Lou: Which drinks are you most likely to be consuming in those venues?

Jamie: We like cocktails, they get you pretty fucked, ha ha.

Gillian: Usually we just drink pints or spirits but it just depends where we are!

Skinhead Jim: Not tequilla anyway!

Gillian: Speak for yourself! ha ha

Lou: Which bands should reform and which should split up? ...And why?

Skinhead Jim: I miss the clash but unfortunatley theres nothing we can do about that - Joe strummer was a legend!

Gillian: My chemical toilet need a good beating! ha ha, they def need to get to fuck like, they suck so bad!

Jamie - Say no to emo!

Lou: What are your top 3 albums of this year?

Skinhead Jim: "The cavalera conspiricy"

Gillian: I can't wait to hear Motley Crue's new album!

Jamie: "Dragonforce!

Lou: What are your thoughts on the current music scene? Do you bother concerning yourselves with what's going on in the mainstream or do you ignore it entirely?

Gillian: we don't ignore it, we just don't really pay much attention to it, ha ha.

Skinhead Jim: We all listen to the radio etc but thats about it!

Gillian: Yeah we prefer going to see new bands and stuff rather than paying attention to the charts, some of the best music i've heard recently has been for unsigned and local bands!

Lou: I've noticed that you’re currently sorting out funds to record a new album. Would you be able to tell us a little bit about this work in progress? Has it got a title yet?

Gillian: we're getting there! It's just trying to find the money to do it! We've got six or seven tracks down now though and we have our new guitarist so we will be back in the studio to record some more once we've got the cash together!

Skinhead Jim: It's been pretty good fun recording so far but with Junior leaving and us being a skint unsigned band its been pretty hard to get much done this year! We're back on track now though so we will hopefully find someone that's willing to release it later in the year!

Jamie: We've not named it yet but will keep everyone updated with it online!

Lou: While I’m on the subject of the album, there’s a competition on your MySpace where people can design your album cover. Would you mind telling the Loucifer Speaks readers a little bit about the competition and how they can enter?

Gillian: Yeah basically anyone who reckons they're good at art can send us some designs and we're gonna pick our favourite and use it as the cover art on the new record. To enter you just have to email us so we can send the terms and conditions to you and then send us your art!

Skinhead jim: Simple as that, lol.

Lou: Do you have any merchandise available?

Jamie: Not at the moment but we will have t shirts and stickers very very soon!

Gillian: Yeah but you'll have to come to our gigs to but them! lol

Lou: What’s on the cards for the band in 2008?

Skinhead Jim: 2008 is the yar of The Babyistters!

Gillian: Indeed!

Lou: Are there any words of wisdom that you would like to end this interview with?

Gillian: never run with scissors??

Skinhead Jim: Come see us play!

Jamie - naw. ha ha.
