Do you long for some Blackened Thrash? Well look no further than Suicidal Winds...
Lou: Hi, thanks for agreeing to this interview - I really appreciate it! I have your "Chaos Rising" album, but I'm still relatively new to the band. Would you mind telling me and the readers of Loucifer Speaks a little bit about the band's history?
Mathias: Well we started the band already in 1992 have done 4 demos, 2 7" EPs, one Split CD, one live CD and 4 full length albums. We had more or less have the same style since we started, but since you are new listener to us I would recomend you to check out "Wrath of god". But all the albums are raw metal the same as now.
Lou: What's the best way to describe your music?
Mathias: Well I think you could call it a mixture of death trash and black metal. I would call it aggressive metal 'cause that's what we are ha ha.
Lou: Which bands would you say have been your biggest influences?
Mathias: Well we have a lot of influences of course not just one band maybe 100 ha ha. Some of my faves are NECRODEATH, MEFISTO, (early)SLAYER,(early)METALLICA, KREATOR, SODOM, BATHORY, BLACK SABBATH, DEATH SS, VENOM, ENTOMBED, VIOLE..NT FORCE I like alot of metal and the influences are different from time to time.
Lou: I understand that you've got a split single/EP coming out soon. When is it due out and which other band is involved?
Mathias: Well the other band is THRONEON from poland and I think it will be released on a polish company sometime this year its delayed. cause the first label that wanted to release it didn't do so we had to wait for a new label and that sucks.
Lou: Do you have any plans to release another full length album in the near future?
Mathias: Well we dont have enough tracks ready yet. Now we got 6-7 songs so we need some more. So I'll guess late this year or early next we will record them. But nothing is sure yet.
Lou: Do you have any gigs coming up?
Mathias: No, we have no planned right now we did one with GRIEF OF EMERALD earlier this year and we will do one in Göteborg later on with KILL and MORBID INSULTER
Lou: What have been the best and worst tours you've been on, and why?
Mathias: Well every tour our gig has been great. The worst is probably some in gotheburrg when we had to pack all our equipment to the gig and thats not fun at all ha ha. The coolest is probably our tours gigs in Germany. Germany is metal country no 1 that's for sure and the beers taste good ha ha
Lou: Have you got any plans to play any UK shows soon?
Mathias: No we had nothing in UK and thats sucks, but from what I heard it is not mouch underground gigs going on in UK those days but maybe I'm wrong.
Lou: What is the best thing about a Suicidal Winds gig?
Mathias: Well the best thing is that you would headbang like crazy. I think we are a good live band really aggressive and total metal the way it should be you would like it im sure ha ha
Lou: Which band should reform, and which band should split up? Metal or otherwise.
Mathias: Well that was a hard one ha ha. I hope all NU metal bands will split up 'cause I dont like that kind of modern music, so I would be happy if we could get rid of IN FLAMES for example ha ha. And reformed bands I want to see is probably VIOLENT FORCE; MUTILATOR, MASTERS HAMMER. And of course THE BEATLES Haha
Lou: I have "Chaos Rising" on CD and my favourite track from it is either "World's End" (which I featured on one of the Loucifer Speaks Podcasts) or "Born To Hate". What is your favourite track from that album and why?
Mathias: I also like the tracks you named + "destruction invocation" and "ballade of death" but I really like all the songs, so its hard to choose just one.
Lou: What is your favourite Suicidal Winds track overall, and why?
Mathias: My fave track of all our song is probably wrath of god from our third album its a varried and cool song.
Lou: Do you have any tips for any aspiring musicians?
Mathias: Well I think all people who does music must love what they do. Don't do it because of trends just do what you like thats a good way to start and continue.
Lou: The cover art for "Chaos Rising" is amazing. Who was the artist for it?
Mathias: Its a guy named Daniel Desecrator from chile in south america he for sure is great I'm sure we will have him again since he's the best.
Lou: What is your favourite Suicidal Winds album art?
Mathias: Definitely "Chaos Rising" it is perfect. But also the MCD crush us with fire is a cool front cover check it out.
Lou: How did the deal with Pulverised Records come about? Will the split be released through them?
Mathias: Well we contacted them and they liked us. And we are happy for that 'cause they are a very good and serious label. No the split will be on a small underground label. But our coming albums will hopefully be out on pulverised support them.
Lou: Are any of the members of Suicidal Winds involved in any other projects at the moment?
Mathias: Well, me, Fredrik and Peter has AXISPOWERS - an old school death metal band, new album soon out on pulverised. Emil got some projects to NESTUNES is one of them so we are active ha ha
