What is Loucifer Speaks?
The Brief History of Loucifer Speaks
The first idea was conceived on a - now dead - forum called AltCroydon. The plan was to create a fanzine which focused on the bands in my local area. There was to be a small group of contributors who would work together to produce an issue on a regular basis. Sadly this never amounted to anything.
After doing nothing for a few months I decided to go back to the idea, but this it would be different. This time the whole thing would be based entirely on the web. Yes, I was entering the highly populated world of the webzine. And, so "ARSE!" was born. This project ran pretty well, but I found that I was doing 99% of the work on it. I decided to ask a few people on various music forums to help me out and, soon enough, there were 3 or 4 regular contributors other than myself. I also set up an "ARSE!" forum.
But, my desire to produce a real fanzine was still there and very soon the "ARSE!" team was producing a "paper" issue every few months. Things were really looking up. We started making monthly issues and we found a sponsor in the forum of Ragebreed. I was still writing a majority of the zine, but I was pleased with the pace that things were moving.
In the later months of 2006, Ragebreed asked me to promote and organise a gig in Croydon. I was delighted with the idea and go to work with booking bands and securing a date. Everything was going to plan - I'd even interviewed the headlining act so that they'd get that little extra bit of promotion. Yes, everything seemed wonderful... Then cracks started to show...
I received an email from the venue - The Cartoon - saying that it would be shutting it's doors for good... and they weren't sure when it's final day would be. Perhaps my gig wouldn't go ahead. I was devasted. I loved The Cartoon and I'd been going there since I wasn't old enough to be going to such places. I told Ragebreed about this and they advised me to keep promoting the gig. The day of the event grew closer and closer and, despite The Cartoon's iminent closure, everything seemed fine. Then, the day before the gig, Ragebreed pulled the plug. They were worried that no one would show up / the venue would be closed. I completely understood their reasons, but that didn't stop me from feeling gutted. All my hard work had gone to waste. The worst part was that I still needed to tell some of the bands that it was all off. That certainly wasn't a job that I took any pleasure in. Artisian and Gilla Bruja - I'm still sorry.
A day or so after the gig was due to take place, The Cartoon closed.
I became fairly disillusioned with the whole thing and my work on "ARSE!" slowed down. By the beginning of 2007, I had pretty much abandoned the site, the forum and the fanzine.
Because I wasn't spending much time on my own forum, I had time to re-discover ones which I had forgotten. One of them was Metal-Asylum.
Very soon my urge to write a zine started up again. Members from the "ARSE!" forum joined Metal-Asylum and we all worked on a zine called "The Metal Fest". Unfortunately this was only to be a bi-monthly project and I wanted something a litte faster paced. Then, one day on the MySpace bulletin board, I found the answer - Marco from Burning Misery was looking for reviewers for his site. I quickly decided that I would write for both Burning Misery and "The Metal Fest".
This was, and still is, a brilliant plan.
My main reason for creating Loucifer Speaks is that I wanted a place where I could keep all of my work together.
Why the name?
Loucifer is my "online name". I use it on just about every message board I visit. I decided to call this site Loucifer Speaks to pay homage to Secrets Of The Moon who have a track called "Lucifer Speaks" on their "Antithesis" album.
If you would like to find out more about me (although, I'm not sure why!), please go to my MySpace page.
Thanks,
Lou.
